Burlington Resources Foundation Provides $300,000 Donation
HOUSTON (February 2, 2005) — The Texas Heart Institute has received a generous donation of $300,000 from the Burlington Resources Foundation. This latest gift adds to total contributions of $1.4 million that the Burlington Resources Foundation has given to the Heart Institute.
"We are extremely grateful for the consistent and generous support from the Burlington Resources Foundation. Gifts such as these allow us to maintain our leadership position in research and education as we work to eradicate heart disease, by far the leading cause of death in our country," said Denton A. Cooley, M.D., president and surgeon-in-chief of the Texas Heart Institute.
"Over the last 40 years, the Texas Heart Institute has advanced every facet of cardiovascular medicine. It is only through dedicated and innovative research and education that we have been able to impact the devastating toll of heart disease, and that benefits not only patients here but around the world. The generous support of individuals and organizations, such as that demonstrated by the Burlington Resources Foundation, allows that progress to move forward," said Meredith Long, Chairman of the Texas Heart Institute Board of Trustees.
Headquartered in Houston, Texas, Burlington Resources is one of the world's largest independent oil and gas companies. The company has properties in the U.S., Canada, the United Kingdom, Africa, China and South America.
World-renowned cardiovascular surgeon Denton A. Cooley, MD, founded the Texas Heart Institute in 1962 for the study and treatment of diseases of the heart and blood vessels. Together with the Institute's clinical partner, St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital, it has been ranked among the nation's top ten heart centers in an annual survey published by U.S.News & World Report for the past 14 years.
