Dr. Stainback has a national reputation as Medical Director of Noninvasive Cardiac Imaging and the Adult Echocardiography Laboratory at St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital, home of the Texas Heart Institute. He believes that his patients benefit from his ongoing experience as a published clinical researcher and mentor for THI cardiology and cardiac anesthesia training programs. A special clinical interest is stress testing for coronary and valve disease, and intraoperative transesophageal echo imaging to evaluate the success of valve and congenital cardiac surgery repair.
His research interests have included exploration of cutting-edge cardiac ultrasound imaging techniques; correlation of echo, cardiac MR and cardiac CT images, and the evaluation of left ventricular assist device function.
"Quality in cardiovascular imaging" has been a longstanding interest for Dr. Stainback, medical director of the Texas Heart Institute/St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital Echocardiography Laboratory, the first echo lab to be accredited in Texas. Dr. Stainback is section editor for the Texas Heart Institute Journal "Images in Cardiovascular Medicine", and he is the current President of the Board of Directors for the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditatation of Echocardiography Laboratories (ICAEL).
