Ask a Texas Heart Institute Doctor
Informed patients make better patients.

Question:

Are there better medications for atrial fibrillation than Amiodarone?

I have been using amiodarone for years and having the necessary tests for side effects as per requirement. I think that multagor solatol would be better for the long run for my a.f. which started at 55 yrs. Now 65 yrs. and looking to you guys for a extra lease on this crazy world.

Ask a Texas Heart Institute Doctor

The answer is that the best medication is based on the patient’s clinical profile, that is, the characteristics of the individual taking the drug. There are several other options besides Amiodarone, yet the key is to have a full description of the case and the individual characteristics of the person taking the drug. An alternative to drugs is to consider ablation of the atrial fibrillation. This is a procedure which may lead to discontinuation of several drugs a few weeks after recovery.
