The new guidelines, published by the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation have increased the recommended age for consideration of heart transplantation to 70 years old. However, they do note that patients over the age of 70 without other comorbid illnesses could still be considered on an individual basis. Most transplant programs have established criteria addressing age for consideration of transplant. You can ask the transplant program for their specific inclusion and exclusion criteria for heart transplantation. Thank you for your interest.
