CME Information - Overview

This presentation focuses on factors of the innate immunity within the cardiac myocyte that are responsible for altered susceptibility to viral myocarditis. Dr. Knowlton also discusses SOCS proteins and their role in the heart.

Target Audience
This continuing medical education activity is intended for cardiologists and physicians with an interest in developing a better understanding of infections of the heart and current treatment options.

Method of Instruction / Participation
This enduring material comprises slide sets with text and audio derived from a live cardiology grand rounds presentation with post activity assessment and evaluation.

Educational Objectives

The intended result of this activity is increased knowledge. At the conclusion of this program, participants will be able to –

  • Recognize the importance of virus in dilated cardiomyopathy.
  • Explain the importance of the myocardial innate immune response in the development of viral myocarditis.
  • Discuss the role of the dystrophin-glycoprotein complex in the pathogenesis of viral cardiomyopathy.
