Advancing Cardiovascular Research: The New Cath Lab at The Texas Heart Institute
Innovation drives every breakthrough at The Texas Heart Institute (THI), and we are excited to announce the launch of our new Catheterization Laboratory (Cath Lab)—a cutting-edge facility dedicated to advancing cardiovascular research.
Officially opened on January 14, 2025, this cath lab dedicated for research represents a powerful platform to help investigators explore new diagnostic and therapeutic techniques.
What Makes This Lab Exceptional?
The Cath Lab is equipped with a state-of-the-art Phillips Allura Xper FD10 x-ray system designed to enable advanced research capabilities with features such as:
- Reduced Radiation Exposure: Safer imaging protocols minimize radiation levels.
- High-Quality Imaging: The digital Flat Detector reduces distortion and delivers detailed visualizations of cardiovascular structures, enhancing research accuracy.
- Compact Design: Allows better access to research models, improving procedural efficiency.
These innovations will enable THI researchers to explore minimally invasive techniques for addressing clinical challenges, including coronary artery disease and heart rhythm abnormalities—leading causes of cardiac morbidity and mortality in the U.S. By testing and refining these approaches in a controlled environment, the lab will help bridge the gap between scientific discovery and patient care.
During the ribbon-cutting ceremony, THI CEO Dr. Joseph G. Rogers and Dr. Emerson Perin, Director of THI’s Center for Clinical Research, shared their enthusiasm for the lab’s potential.
“The opening of this Cath Lab underscores our commitment to being at the forefront of cardiovascular research,” said Dr. Rogers. “It’s a facility that will drive innovation and help us achieve better outcomes for patients in the future.”
Dr. Perin highlighted the lab’s unique role in advancing pre-clinical research. “This is not only the best Cath Lab in the world because of its state-of-the-art equipment but also because it provides the platform to pioneer techniques that will ultimately save lives,” he noted.
The new Cath Lab exemplifies THI’s dedication to pushing boundaries and exploring new frontiers in cardiovascular medicine. By investing in facilities like this, THI is ensuring a healthier future for patients worldwide.
Stay tuned as we share the groundbreaking research and discoveries emerging from this extraordinary space.
