Breath of Life Opera Premiers in Houston June 27-29

HOUSTON (Mar 27, 2024) – This summer, The Texas Heart Institute and Houston Methodist are proud to co-sponsor an opera that tells the story of a heart transplant. “Breath of Life” is presented by Lone Star Lyric, with music by Todd Frazier, Center for Performing Arts Medicine Director at Houston Methodist Hospital, and Libretto by Michael Remson.

Inspired by his childhood experiences in the Texas Medical Center, where his father, Dr. O.H. Frazier, is a renowned heart surgeon, Frazier’s opera tells the captivating story of heart transplant patients, families, and doctors. Through music and storytelling, Frazier highlights the emotional and spiritual journey of those involved in the transplant process.

“Breath of Life” explores themes of guilt, sacrifice, the spirit of giving, and the transformative power of organ donation. With a cast of talented singers and musicians from Houston, this opera brings together the worlds of science and art in a moving and unforgettable production.

Having already performed at Texas Tech University to critical acclaim, Frazier is excited to share his inspirational opera “Breath of Life” with audiences in Houston at Rice University’s Moody Center for the Arts for three special performances from June 27 to 29.

Don’t miss this opportunity to experience a truly original and inspiring opera at Rice University’s Moody Center for the Arts from June 27 to 29, 2024.
