Fox News Consults THI Cardiologist on the Best Foods to Help Prevent a Heart Attack
Fox News recently consulted Alexander Postalian, MD, a cardiologist at The Texas Heart Institute, on the best foods individuals can eat to help prevent a heart attack and ensure heart health.
He encouraged readers to eat lean proteins, including grilled fish and grilled chicken, along with vegetables “without a lot of dressing, as these can sneak in additional sugar and calories.”
The article applauded avocados and fatty fish high in omega-3s, such as salmon, bluefin tuna, whitefish and striped bass, as healthy fats that are an important part of the Mediterranean diet, which has long been linked to improved heart health.
Dr. Postalian also advised against specific foods—including simple carbohydrates, such as bread, pasta, and potatoes—when aiming for a heart-healthy diet.
