National Walking Day Houston!

#HOUwalk    #WALK30    #GoWalkHouston

On April 3, organizations across the Greater Houston area are joining Fit Houston for National Walking Day to encourage 8 million people to put one foot before the other and take steps towards a healthier and happier lifestyle.  National Walking Day reminds us that physical activity doesn’t have to be complicated or strenuous. It’s about finding the activity that works for you and making it a part of your routine.

Participation in all National Walking Day events is free. According to Fit Houston founder and executive director Lharissa Jacobs, groups can form a team or walk solo and “walk where you are,” whether it’s a stroll around the office, a neighborhood walk, or a park hike.

Several organizations are serving on the local hosting planning committee to coordinate, lead, and spread the word about free walks across Houston, including Fit Houston, Buffalo Bayou Partnership, Urban Paths, HCA Houston Healthcare, Imagína Communications, Latino Outdoors, Sisters Thrive, Friends of Columbia Tap, and Fit, Fabulous, and Free!

In addition, the Fit Houston Healthy City wellness initiative member organizations plan to celebrate National Walking Day in Houston as a demonstration of what organizations can do together for healthier communities. Fit Houston Healthy City is a multi-stakeholder collaborative of organizations working toward healthy communities.

Everyone is encouraged to share their group’s photos on social media on National Walking Day and use #HOUwalk, #WALK30, and #GoWalkHouston hashtags to resonate the message across the city. Whether you prefer a stroll around your neighborhood or an invigorating hike through the mountains, every step brings you closer to a healthier and more fulfilling life.
