The Texas Heart Institute Fellowship Program Congratulates 2024 Cardiology Graduates
On June 7, The Texas Heart Institute honored 11 graduates of its Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship and subspecialty cardiology fellowship programs. The annual Honors and Pinning Celebration hosted graduates, their families, teaching faculty, and members of The Texas Heart Institute Academic Professional Staff in the Denton A. Cooley Building’s Ansary Atrium.
Joseph G. Rogers, MD, The Institute’s President and CEO, and Joanna Molina Razavi, MD, THI Cardiac Society President, welcomed the families and friends that supported the graduates throughout their training and emphasized the magnitude of the accomplishments being celebrated. Stephanie Coulter, MD, and Jorge Escobar, MD, leaders of the Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship, stressed the professional confidence that the program faculty had in the graduates and the lasting personal ties developed throughout their training.
The Symbol of Excellence pins presented to each graduate by their faculty mentors and fellowship program leadership signify their inclusion in the exceptional group of professionals trained at The Institute. Dr. Rogers presented a detailed history of the symbol and its significance, and Joggy George, MD, provided an alumni perspective on the pinning ceremony tradition and the camaraderie it represents.
Graduates of the Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship have completed three years of rigorous general cardiology training. Those completing subspecialty training at The Institute have extended their instruction by an additional year for programs in interventional cardiology or advanced heart failure, or for an additional two years for the cardiac electrophysiology program.
The programs’ teaching faculty honored Kaleb D. Lambeth, MD, with the Tauber Outstanding Fellow of the Year Award. The Robert J. Hall Teaching Award recipient for 2024 was Ajith P. Nair, MD. This annual award, presented by the third-year cardiology fellows to a member of the teaching faculty, recognizes excellence in clinical instruction.
The graduates have accepted advanced training opportunities at The Texas Heart Institute and clinical positions and in Houston and across the United States.
